Home Barista Christmas List

Do you love coffee or know someone that does? Are they constantly opening up their Yelp app to find the closest “third-wave” coffee shop? Give them these premium essentials to make great coffee at home. Here’s what it boils down to.

  1. You must have fresh roasted coffee. Whole bean, not ground until right before brewing. Buy some of the freshest coffee at my online store: http://buy.ethans.coffee.
  2. Water. Coffee is 98% water! In order to get the best tasting coffee, you need good tasting water. Consider getting them a reverse osmosis system. Too expensive? Maybe a simple Zero Water filter pitcher will do. If your water tastes bad, your coffee will too.
  3. You need to have the proper grinder. A burr grinder. Here’s a list of my favorites; from least expensive to most.
    1. Hand Grinder $22: http://a.co/io5vcP1 (great for camping and traveling)
    2. Cuisinart $45: http://a.co/cR5xm4S
    3. Baratza $129: http://a.co/0xHPv4k
  4. Brewing Equipment:
    1. Drip – Bonavita – $134
    2. Beginner Espresso Machine – Delonghi EC155 – $91
    3. Better Espresso Machine – Breville Infuser  –  $470

I have the Breville Barista Express espresso machine. It has a built-in espresso burr grinder. It’s a great machine. If you already have a burr grinder, then the Breville Infuser is all you need. I didn’t have a burr grinder when I won my Barista Express.
